Cooking School Owner Triumphs Over Challenges Life Dishes Up

Gaithersburg, MD August 28, 2004 -- Ronaldo's of Potomac, a recreational cooking school located in the Kentlands offering expert culinary instruction for all interests and skill levels, announced today that the school plans to launch a grand re-opening on September 18, 2004. The decision encompasses an effort to introduce a new partnership, new cooking classes and to celebrate triumph over disease.

Ronaldo's of Potomac first opened in January 2004. Soon after, the school's owner and founder, Ronald Manson, was diagnosed with prostate cancer. According to Manson, "launching a new business is a difficult challenge, but doesn't compare to being faced with cancer. I was in no state to grow the school and had to make health a priority."

Today his prostate cancer is in remission, and with the help of his new business partner Jill Bloomfield, co-owner and instructor specializing in cooking with children, the team has plans to expand Ronaldo's of Potomac throughout the next year, including launching a second location.

"I'm delighted to be a part of the school at such an exciting time—we have innovative chefs and great classes for everyone, now all we have to do is meet the communtiy's demand for more cooking classes," said Bloomfield.

In addition to prizes and give-a-ways, the re-opening in September will feature a day of free cooking classes where would-be cooks can "test-drive the cooking school," according to Bloomfield. A Basic Knife Skills Class, a Healthy Quick Cook Class, an Italian Food Favorites Class and a Hands-on Pizza Party for children are scheduled. The business will be collecting donations that day to contribute to The Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center, which provided medical care for Manson. Additionally, a portion of all class fees collected through the end of October will be donated as well.
